Jakarta (ANTARA) - Lagu "Christmas Lights" karya grup musik rock alternatif dari Inggris Coldplay merupakan balada sendu yang bila diartikan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia menjadi "lampu-lampu natal", sebagai simbol harapan dan kehangatan di hari natal.
Lirik lagu itu bercerita tentang seseorang yang berduka karena putus cinta di malam natal, namun tetap berharap akan hari natal dapat membuatnya menjadi lebih baik.
Lagu tersebut dirilis secara digital pada 2010 sebagai singel yang mandiri, bukan bagian dari album studio kelima Coldplay, "Mylo Xyloto" seperti yang disangkakan oleh penggemar di situs resmi Coldplay.
Vokalis Coldplay Chris Martin menulis lagu "Christmas Lights" bersama personel grup lainnya Will Champion (drum), Jonny Buckland (gitar), dan Guy Berryman (bas), di mana inspirasi mereka berasal dari pengalaman sulit di akhir tur Viva La Vida pada 2010.
Pada 2020, Coldplay akhirnya merilis bentuk fisik lagu "Christmas Lights" dalam piringan hitam 7 inci edisi terbatas.
Lagu ini berada di kunci G, dan video musiknya disutradarai oleh Mat Whitecross, menampilkan para personel Coldplay bermain musik di panggung yang atasnya bertuliskan kata-kata 'CREDO ELVEM ETIAM VIVERE', merujuk pada frasa Latin yang berarti "Aku percaya Elvis hidup".
Video musik itu telah ditonton lebih dari 72 juta kali sejak dirilis pada 1 Desember 2010.
